POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The Choral Music Educator is a certified professional responsible for delivering music education that aligns with state standards. This role emphasizes creativity and differentiation in teaching methods.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of effective practices in music education and the Indiana Academic Standards, while fostering a curriculum that encourages creativity.
  • Inspire and engage students in their musical journey, focusing on music theory, reading, musicianship, and vocal skills through both solo and group performances.
  • Enhance communication skills, self-esteem, and emotional expression through music, fostering social harmony and teamwork.
  • Select diverse and appropriate vocal literature that caters to the students' abilities.
  • Ensure a safe and productive classroom environment through effective management techniques.
  • Maintain accurate student records as required.
  • Utilize district technology resources effectively.
  • Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Plan and direct at least two concerts annually, involving all performance classes.
  • Conduct weekly rehearsals and prepare students for additional performances as needed.
  • Utilize recommended instructional materials and resources.
  • Engage in recruitment events for Fine Arts Vocal Music.
  • Attend scheduled Fine Arts and Primary Music meetings.
  • Facilitate music participation in school and community events.
  • Assist in budget preparation and management based on program needs.
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts as necessary.
  • Oversee the maintenance and organization of music supplies and equipment.
  • Develop and document lesson plans and program objectives.
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate student progress.
  • Accompany students on field trips when required.
  • Maintain professional relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Adhere to district policies and regulations.
  • Ensure confidentiality in all district matters.
  • Demonstrate consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid teaching license in General Music for all grade levels.
  • Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
  • Familiarity with district and state policies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in urban educational settings is preferred.
  • Not currently on a Performance Improvement Plan.
  • Ability to work in a standard school environment and manage stress effectively.
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish is highly recommended.
