Position Overview:

The Critical Care Paramedic plays a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care in collaboration with the Emergency Department team. This position is pivotal in executing the required care and evaluating the effectiveness of the interventions provided. The Paramedic is responsible for conducting thorough assessments, establishing differential diagnoses, and implementing tailored care plans based on the unique needs of each patient.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Excellence and Patient Care:

  • Collaborate with the emergency department team to take charge of patient care plans, ensuring adherence to established standards.
  • Delegate tasks effectively while maintaining accountability for follow-up and teamwork.
  • Conduct comprehensive admission assessments, utilizing various data sources to inform care decisions.
  • Develop individualized care plans in partnership with patients and their families, regularly reviewing goals and priorities.
  • Implement care plans in accordance with best practices and hospital protocols.
  • Utilize a multidisciplinary approach to foster a safe and supportive environment for patients.
  • Administer medications and treatments within the defined scope of practice.
  • Provide care across all age groups, from neonates to geriatrics.

Development and Patient Education:

  • Engage in continuous professional development and share knowledge to enhance patient care practices.
  • Assess and implement appropriate teaching strategies tailored to the needs of patients and their families.
  • Consult with hospital resources to provide specialized education as needed.
  • Prioritize patient and workplace safety by proactively addressing potential concerns.
  • Integrate patient and family education throughout the care process, including discharge planning.
  • Incorporate preventative health measures into educational initiatives.
  • Support the orientation of new team members by serving as a mentor and resource.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Paramedic Program.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a paramedic ground ambulance service or a related field.
  • Current PM licensure in the State of Iowa.
  • State of Iowa Critical Care Paramedic Endorsement.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications in accordance with AHA standards.
  • PALS certification to be obtained within six months of hire.
  • TNCC certification to be completed within one year of hire and renewed every four years.
  • Training in managing violent and/or aggressive behaviors.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Multicultural sensitivity and basic computer skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in manual skills required for advanced care procedures and medication administration.
  • Ability to complete training on the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
  • Familiarity with standard equipment necessary for performing essential job functions.
