About the Role:

UPMC St. Margaret is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our Operating Room team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures, working closely with our surgical team to provide exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-Operative Preparation: Assist in preparing the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
  • Instrument Management: Pass instruments, sponges, and sutures to surgeons and surgical assistants during procedures.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Check and restock operating room equipment, ensuring it is functioning properly.
  • Patient Care: Assist in preparing patients for surgery, including washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites.
  • Post-Operative Care: Assist in transferring patients to the recovery room and cleaning and restocking the operating room.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a formal surgical technician program preferred.
  • Experience: 0-2 years of experience in a surgical setting; surgical specialties include general, orthopedic, vascular, plastic and reconstructive, obstetrics and gynecology, thoracic, ophthalmic, neurosurgery, organ procurement, and endoscopic surgical settings.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required; Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Technologist Surgery Certified (TSC) certification preferred.
