Overview:
The role of the custodian is vital in upholding the cleanliness and upkeep of the educational facility, thereby fostering a safe and healthy environment conducive to learning.

In addition to standard maintenance tasks, the custodian will assist educators with the arrangement and care of classroom furnishings and equipment.

The custodian also exemplifies professionalism and courtesy, serving as a positive role model for students.

Responsibilities include ensuring the security of the building and collaborating closely with school administration during various activities.


COMPENSATION:
Salary will be determined based on the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Retirement contributions are part of the benefits package, with eligibility criteria outlined for participation in the public employee retirement system.



SCHEDULE:
Evening hours, with flexibility based on departmental requirements.

WORK CALENDAR:
260 days annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates should have experience working with diverse communities or demonstrate a commitment to engaging with a variety of populations. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, or two years of custodial experience may be accepted in lieu of educational qualifications.

Training in first aid and CPR is preferred. Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships with staff and the public are essential.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bilingual abilities and familiarity with security systems, fire alarms, and HVAC operations are advantageous.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.

Cleaning Duties:
a.

Perform sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and scrubbing of floors; dust and polish furniture; wash windows and walls; maintain restrooms; manage waste disposal; and ensure all areas are kept clean and orderly.

b.

Collect litter from school grounds and ensure safety during adverse weather conditions.

c.

Utilize cleaning agents following established safety protocols.

d.

Conduct minor repairs and maintenance as directed by maintenance personnel.

2.

Administrative Duties:
a.

Identify maintenance needs and ensure timely service requests are made.

b.

Order necessary cleaning supplies and materials.

c.

Promote energy conservation practices within the facility.

3.

Safety and Security:
a.

Conduct regular inspections to identify potential hazards.

b.

Secure the building at the end of shifts and verify that emergency equipment is functional.

c.

Assist in emergency planning and response initiatives.
