Position Overview:

The San Francisco Department of Public Health is seeking dedicated float physicians who are committed to enhancing community health through accessible care.

Flexible Work Options: We offer a variety of employment arrangements.

Permanent Float Physician roles are available with ongoing benefits, requiring a minimum full-time equivalent (FTE) of 60%.

Temporary Float Physician roles are limited in duration, also requiring a minimum FTE of 60% and a commitment of at least 6 months. (Benefits may be included).

COMPENSATION: The salary range is $219, $316,186.00 annually, commensurate with post-residency clinical experience.

Float Physicians play a crucial role in maintaining patient care continuity when regular providers are unavailable. They collaborate with a multidisciplinary team across various health centers to deliver in-person and telehealth services, including primary care, preventive care, and urgent care aligned with their specialty. Responsibilities may include managing a patient panel, covering provider in-baskets during absences, and engaging in administrative and quality improvement tasks. Assignments may change frequently based on operational needs.

About Our Organization: The Primary Care division is integral to the San Francisco Department of Public Health's comprehensive care system. Our health centers provide compassionate, high-quality care to individuals of all ages, regardless of their financial situation or immigration status.

On-site specialty services encompass prenatal and family planning care, integrated behavioral health, dental services, nutrition, pharmacy, and support for vulnerable populations, including those experiencing homelessness.

Our teams collaborate with academic partners to deliver acute and specialty care, train healthcare professionals, and contribute to research initiatives.

WORK SCHEDULE: Standard hours are 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday, with potential evening and weekend shifts. Participation in an after-hours on-call rotation is required for Permanent Float Physician roles.

Qualifications:

  1. A valid medical license issued by the Medical Board of California or the Osteopathic Medical Board of California.
  2. Completion of a residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education or the American Osteopathic Association in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine (Board Eligible).
