Position Title: Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Product Team Lead

Location: Colorado Springs, CO

Role Summary: The Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Product Team Lead will play a pivotal role within the C2BMC-G organization, contributing to the Command and Control, Battle-Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program that supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and Space Force (SF) clientele. This position entails the development of emulators, integration of third-party simulators, scenario creation, and anchoring of models and system behaviors.

Additionally, the M&S Product Team Lead will provide technical guidance to the co-located Experimentation Lab (X-Lab) organization within the C2BMC program. The candidate will engage in a diverse array of topics that will expand in scope and complexity over time. Key focus areas will include sensor emulation, interface exchange behaviors, scenario development, and performance enhancement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and integrate modeling and simulation tools, including emulators and third-party simulators, for the C2BMC program.
  • Collaborate with C2BMC-G and X-Lab agile teams to understand and prototype Modeling and Simulation Tools, generating scenario datasets.
  • Utilize mathematical, physical, statistical, data parsing, plotting, and database techniques to create Algorithm Description Documents (ADDs) and reference implementations.
  • Commit reference implementations to version control repositories and develop unit tests, preferably using Cucumber scenarios.
  • Implement DevSecOps principles to maintain nightly pipelines for automated testing and continuous integration of algorithm implementations.
  • Deliver technical demonstrations and support for Agile sprints, including presentations to C2BMC-G Project Owners (POs) and the Release Train Engineer (RTE).
  • Mentor junior engineers within the M&S IPT and contribute to the completion of tasks within the M&S IPT Backlog in JIRA.
  • Represent the organization in Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) and interface with both internal teams and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mathematics, or a related Science/Engineering discipline, or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years with a related Master's degree.
  • Strong foundation in mathematics and physics, including probability and statistics, linear algebra, and calculus.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB or similar programming languages (Python, Perl, Bash, Mathematica, JavaScript, etc.) for prototyping, data visualization, scripting, parsing, and functional programming.
  • Experience in developing and working with mathematical models, algorithm engineering, and systems/software engineering processes.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, thriving in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in Monte Carlo analysis, statistical regression, and machine learning techniques.
  • Familiarity with modeling and simulation of large complex systems, as well as Verification & Validation (V&V) testing of software systems.
  • Experience with the C2BMC mission, Missile Defense domain, or Space Domain Awareness domain.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development processes and distributed application environments coded in Java, C++, or other Object-Oriented languages.
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix development environments, Git, Bitbucket, Jenkins/Hudson, Jira, Cucumber, Confluence, Twiki, and regular expressions.
  • Experience with topics such as radar signal processing, Kalman filtering, orbital dynamics, and state vectors and covariances.
