Physical Education Aquatics Program Director

We are seeking a highly qualified Physical Education Aquatics Program Director to join our team at DC Public Schools.
About the RoleThis is a safety-sensitive position that requires the ability to create a safe and inclusive learning environment in the swimming pool. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education and experience in teaching water safety, swimming, and aquatics-based courses.
Duties and Responsibilities- Provides direct instruction to classes of 15 or less students in the swimming pool, ensuring appropriate safety measures are in place.
- Assists in enforcing federal, state, and district regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Identifies supplies and equipment needed for an aquatics and physical education program and maintains an ongoing inventory.
- Implements the aquatics physical education program using instructional techniques to improve students' performance in water safety, life saving techniques, basic aquatic skills, stroke mechanics, diving, starts and turns, and other aquatics-based activities.
- Administers formative and summative assessments and creates comprehensive grading according to American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Standards and Health and Physical Education Standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education or equivalent coursework as determined by OSSE.
- Previous exposure to or experience in the education sector is a plus.
- Licensed by the Office of the State Superintendent of Education in Health and Physical Education.
- Successful completion of the Praxis 1 and 2 exams or holding a standard teaching license with another state for three or more successful years with reciprocity.
The salary for this position is estimated to be around $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience. In addition to competitive compensation, we offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
