Job Summary

Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing complex analyses, exercising good judgment, and taking an active role in problem-solving.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative tests and examinations using various analyzers and/or manual methods.
  • Set pace for workload and troubleshoot workflow issues for the laboratory section.
  • Meet turnaround time expectations as defined by management.
  • Recognize, investigate, and correctly resolve test discrepancies.
  • Compile and review monthly quality control data, including actions for variances identified.
  • Oversee section compliance by reviewing and responding to College of American Pathologists (CAP) Accreditation Checklists questions/findings.
  • Develop plans, lead implementation, and perform data analysis of validations.
  • Coordinate instrument maintenance and repairs.
  • Independently handle resolution of complex problems and issues for the section.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Three years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist or comparable role.
  • One of the following required certifications: Certified as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or categorical certification by Board of Certification (ASCP), Certified as a Medical Technologist by American Medical Technologists (AMT), Certified as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), or HLA only - One of the following is required: Medical Technologist, MT(ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS(ASCP) certification, Certified by American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI), or Microbiology only - One of the following is required: Medical Technologist, MT(ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS(ASCP) certification, Microbiology, M(ASCP) certification, or Clinical microbiology registry from American Society for Microbiology, RM(AAM).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or categorical certification by Board of Certification (ASCP).
  • Certified as a Medical Technologist by American Medical Technologists (AMT).
  • Certified as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA).
  • HLA only - One of the following is required: Medical Technologist, MT(ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS(ASCP) certification, Certified by American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI), or Microbiology only - One of the following is required: Medical Technologist, MT(ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist, MLS(ASCP) certification, Microbiology, M(ASCP) certification, or Clinical microbiology registry from American Society for Microbiology, RM(AAM).
