About the Role
We are seeking a proactive, organized, and enthusiastic individual to work closely with the Maritime Director, supporting the delivery of maritime priorities. As Head of Maritime Directors Office, you will have a varied and cross-cutting role that includes working with a high degree of autonomy, problem-solving, and driving progress on business management and corporate activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the office of the Director, supporting them in executing their duties, including acting as the first point of contact and working closely with the Director-General's office.
- Work with the Maritime Director and Senior Management team to proactively support the functions and make the Maritime Directorate a great place to work.
- Take initiative to proactively support the Maritime Director in undertaking their duties, using excellent communication and influencing skills to act on behalf of the Director when needed, and providing clear direction and guidance to the Directorate.
- Align Maritime Directorate activity with Aviation, Maritime, and Security Director-General Group and wider Department for Transport.
Requirements
You will be an articulate communicator, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to influence at all levels. You will enjoy working with a diverse range of senior stakeholders and use your excellent interpersonal skills to develop trusted working relationships. You will be a proactive individual with the confidence to work on your own initiative, enabling you to solve any problems that arise.
Additional Information
This role is available to individuals who wish to spend their office time in Leeds or Birmingham, and we would expect the individual to be willing to travel to accompany the Director on site visits or attend alternative DfT offices, predominantly in London. A minimum of 60% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.
