As a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) in a school environment, you will play a crucial role in enhancing the lives of students with special needs.
Position Overview:
The Speech Language Pathologist is tasked with providing direct therapeutic services to students who qualify for special education due to speech or language impairments. You will work closely with students in both individual and small group settings, conducting sessions that align with their specific goals.
Collaboration is key; you will engage with teachers, parents, and other professionals to understand and address the unique needs of each student.Depending on the district's requirements, you may be involved in conducting evaluations to assess students' speech and language capabilities, determining their eligibility for special education services.
SLPs will also develop relevant IEP goals in conjunction with interdisciplinary teams and monitor student progress throughout the academic year.
You will be responsible for documenting progress and preparing reports as required by the district.In addition to your collaboration with educators and families, you will work alongside other specialists, including school psychologists and behavior analysts, to provide comprehensive support.
Experience with high and low-tech AAC systems is beneficial, as is familiarity with the SETT framework, as SLPs often serve as key resources for evaluators.
Knowledge of RTI and MTSS frameworks is also advantageous, as schools value the insights SLPs contribute to child study teams.
Coordinating therapy schedules to ensure compliance with IEPs is essential, and experience in feeding and swallowing evaluations is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in monthly discussions regarding caseload with Aveanna's Clinical Director.
- Assist teachers in identifying and referring students with suspected speech and language impairments.
- Conduct screenings to identify students needing speech and language interventions.
- Provide support and information to families as appropriate.
- Deliver comprehensive evaluations outlining therapy needs, goals, and anticipated outcomes.
- Act as a resource consultant for clinical staff.
- Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
- Valid and unrestricted SLP license in the state of practice.
- Additional state-specific requirements may apply.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development as mandated by state regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
- Exhibit strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrate effective organizational and communication abilities.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
- Capability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Physical stamina for prolonged walking, standing, and other activities.
- Ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations.
- Capacity to assist students and manage equipment without assistance.
