Position Overview:The role of a Site Engineer (SE) serves as the foundational entry point within the HITT Futures Leadership program. This position encompasses both a workforce and an educational aspect, designed to develop concurrently, or a minimum three-year workforce commitment for those not pursuing a degree.
Educational Component: 16 hours/week (optional)The SE role permits participants to enroll in a higher education institution with the aim of earning a degree in a relevant field such as construction management, engineering, business, or architecture. Candidates are expected to dedicate around 16 hours weekly to educational pursuits, balancing class and study time with the demands of the construction site. The supervising member of the HITT Site Operations team will collaborate with each SE to ensure work schedules accommodate educational commitments.
Workforce Component: 24 hours/week or 40 hours/weekParticipants in the SE program who are also enrolled in higher education will work on-site for 24 hours weekly. Those not pursuing a degree will be required to commit to a full 40-hour work week for a minimum of three years. Each SE will be paired with a Senior HITT Site Operations team member to acquire essential construction skills related to general construction practices. This learning experience is structured to start with manual skill development and evolve towards basic supervisory capabilities. SEs may be tasked with manual or trade responsibilities to enhance their understanding of fundamental construction activities.
Key Responsibilities:General Project Skills:
- Assist in establishing and maintaining an organized jobsite office.
- Install and uphold appropriate site signage and postings as instructed.
- Ensure proper site protection measures are in place as directed.
- Comprehend and help maintain site security protocols.
- Understand HITT's corporate safety initiatives and their application on-site.
- Engage and coordinate with project superintendents on a daily basis.
- Execute tasks assigned by project superintendents as directed.
- Develop a foundational understanding of site logistics and setup.
- Gain insight into scheduling principles.
- Participate in daily reporting as directed.
- Coordinate site deliveries and manage traffic control.
- Conduct inventory of tools, equipment, and materials as instructed.
Labor and Trade Skills:
- Coordinate with building trades as directed by the project superintendent.
- Develop a basic understanding of individual building trade scopes.
- Acquire knowledge of trade sequencing.
- Attend foremen meetings.
- Assist in supervised layout and field measuring.
- Observe preparatory meetings with subcontractors when instructed.
- Enforce PPE and safety regulations among tradesmen.
Upon successful completion of three years in the workforce component or obtaining an associate degree alongside at least 24 months in the workforce, the SE will qualify for promotion to Assistant Superintendent and graduate from the HITT Futures program.
