Position Overview:
The Geotechnical Engineer plays a crucial role in conducting subsurface assessments and engineering evaluations for various site development initiatives. This position also involves forensic investigations and supports design plans related to earth retaining structures, wastewater management, and foundation support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct both routine and intricate field exploration programs across a variety of project types.
  • Provide clear instructions for field investigations to drilling teams or subcontractors based on the geotechnical project scope.
  • Supervise engineering activities during construction phases, focusing on shallow and deep foundations, excavation support, and earthwork operations.
  • Effectively communicate findings from subsurface explorations to project teams and clients as necessary.
  • Document subsurface conditions and groundwater levels through detailed field boring and test pit logs.
  • Analyze field data to derive geotechnical engineering recommendations and considerations for development.
  • Coordinate laboratory testing in alignment with field results.
  • Compile construction phase inspection reports detailing engineering observations and test outcomes for project management review.
  • Draft initial geotechnical engineering reports based on field investigation data and analyses.
  • Review project documentation to identify relevant geotechnical factors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Soil Science, Geology, or a related field, with a preference for geotechnical engineering concentration.
  • 0-3 years of experience in geotechnical consulting, construction material inspections, or laboratory testing.
  • Experience in construction phase testing and inspection is beneficial, including subgrade preparation and foundation installation oversight.
  • Willingness to work in both outdoor and office environments as required.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is preferred or the ability to obtain it.
  • Valid driver's license and capability to operate personal or company vehicles.
  • Preferred certifications include ACI concrete field-testing technician, OSHA training, and others relevant to construction inspection.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to utilize geotechnical software and mapping tools for site investigations.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar software for site plan production.
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies and understanding the planning and zoning processes.

Physical Demands:
The role requires the ability to perform various physical activities, including standing, walking, climbing, and lifting up to 75 pounds. Visual acuity is necessary for data analysis and site inspections.

Work Environment:
Field inspections may occur during varied hours, including early mornings or late evenings, and involve both indoor and outdoor settings. The position entails exposure to diverse environmental conditions and potential hazards typical of construction sites.
