Our Gulf Gate Library is seeking a dedicated full-time Library Services Manager. The successful candidate will possess strong technological skills, exceptional customer service abilities, and a talent for educating patrons of all ages on the diverse resources available through our library system. This vital position encompasses a variety of responsibilities including communication, programming, outreach, collection management, and administrative tasks. In a collaborative environment, staff will engage in establishing unit, library, and system objectives, contributing to decision-making processes and assessing progress.

About the Position

Our Library Services Managers are recognized for their customer service, programming, outreach, collection management, administration, and staff development. In this role, you will:

  • Establish and implement service standards that guarantee prompt and effective resolution of inquiries, delivered with utmost respect and courtesy.
  • Enhance understanding and utilization of library resources and technology by conducting individual and group training sessions.
  • Assist patrons in finding answers to inquiries, including Interlibrary Loan services and referrals to external agencies.
  • Stay informed about developments, trends, and innovations in library services.
  • Provide support at service desks and assist other sections as required.
  • Represent Sarasota County and the library's interests to users and within the community.
  • Create reviews, press releases, bibliographies, and other promotional materials.
  • Analyze and identify the needs of the service population, developing and directing plans to address those needs.
  • Collaborate with other agencies to provide and obtain materials and services.
  • Participate in setting unit, library, and system goals, contributing to decision-making and progress evaluation.
About the Schedule

This position is Full-Time, requiring 40 hours per week.

Employees must be available to work based on operational needs.

Gulf Gate Library Hours of Operation:

  • Monday - Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
  • Thursday: 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday: 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Currently closed on Sunday, with potential changes based on operational needs.
About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution or the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Science Professionals (CILIP).
  • - OR - Bachelor's degree with enrollment in an MLS/MLIS program, with the ability to complete the degree within twelve (12) months of hire.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License by the date of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in a library setting.
  • Proficiency in using various electronic devices, including Kindle, Nook, tablets, and iPads, and the ability to impart this knowledge to patrons of all ages.
  • Capability to train and coach patrons in technology usage.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position requires successful completion of a pre-employment substance screening. Failure to pass will result in disqualification from employment for five (5) years.

About Everything Else

Starting Pay: $52,936.00

The interview process may include phone interviews, video interviews, and/or in-person interviews.

1. I-9 Acceptable Documents to verify your identity and authorization to work.

  • If your position requires a Florida Driver's License, this must be one of your documents.

2. U.S. Social Security Card (signed, physical card). This is required for Payroll processing and failure to provide it may affect timely compensation.
