Job Title: Assignment Desk Editor I

The Assignment Desk Editor I plays a critical role in the success of ESPN's news coverage. This position is responsible for coordinating the efforts of freelance and staff producers, as well as associated production and technical personnel, to provide high-quality video and audio sports news material for ESPN platforms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Hire and manage freelance ENG crews to ensure timely and effective coverage of sports events.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of fiber, satellite, cellular, FTP, and viral newsgathering procedures to stay ahead of the competition.
  • Assign and coordinate the movement of IP-based transmission devices to ensure seamless coverage of events.
  • Clear social media content for ESPN platforms and react quickly to breaking news and requests.
  • Collaborate with ABC NewsOne/ABC affiliates and other networks on breaking news stories, sharing information, video, and sound.
  • Gather and enter transmission information for televised games, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Work effectively in a team setting, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills, and taking direction from assignment desk management, coordinating producers, news editors, producers, and senior editors.
  • Stay informed and up-to-date on sporting events, demonstrating above-average sports knowledge.
Requirements:
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle high-volume email and phone traffic.
  • Demonstrated initiative and a positive, solution-oriented outlook.
  • Advanced ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Commitment to accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of sports and television production.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a television-related field.
Education:
  • High School Degree or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
