POSITION SUMMARY

The Parks Landscape Maintenance Worker operates under the guidance of the Parks and Recreation Lead Worker, executing a range of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks within park environments and similar facilities. This role encompasses various responsibilities as outlined below.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Conduct daily upkeep of municipal parks and grounds, which includes:

  • Maintaining turf grass, flower beds, and shrub planters.
  • Tree care and general grounds maintenance.
  • Cleaning facilities and restrooms, as well as managing litter and trash collection.

- Prepare and repair athletic fields for sporting events.

- Perform minor modifications to irrigation systems, including:

  • Installing and repairing broken irrigation lines.
  • Repairing sprinkler heads.
  • Assisting in the installation of new sprinkler systems.

- Operate various hand and power tools such as shovels, rakes, mowers, tractors, golf carts, and rototillers, while ensuring proper maintenance of all equipment used in park upkeep.

- Execute minor repairs on tools and park structures as needed.

- Respond to tasks assigned by the lead worker and supervisor, including occasional duties on weekends and holidays.

- Transport city parade floats to designated locations within the county as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in park maintenance or a related field, with some knowledge of horticulture and landscape care.
  • Familiarity with plant species, pest management, and disease control.
  • Understanding of maintenance and repair techniques relevant to park operations.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and the public.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in safely operating landscape maintenance equipment.
  • Must possess reliable transportation and communicate effectively in English.
  • Demonstrated organizational and planning capabilities, along with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with problem-solving abilities and adaptability to change.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position involves working outdoors, with exposure to various environmental conditions such as dust, heat, and humidity. The role requires:

  • Constant standing, kneeling, and physical handling of materials.
  • Ability to lift up to 45 pounds without assistance.
  • Coordination of hand and eye movements, with occasional visual strain.

Attention to detail and memory for various tasks are essential, along with the ability to estimate sizes and quantities of objects.
