Position Overview:

The Nautical Systems Engineer will serve as the principal technical authority for the research, design, and innovation of products and systems that enhance the offerings of Hutchinson Industries. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in product design tailored for marine vessels and demonstrate a profound understanding of onboard systems and maritime environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, including engineers and project managers, to execute design, analysis, and testing activities essential for achieving product development objectives.
  • Engage with Product Management and leadership to ensure design specifications align with corporate strategies and meet customer requirements.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or a related field.
  • Master's degree or Professional Engineer (PE) certification is preferred.
  • Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and relevant marine experience will also be considered.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings and documentation.
  • Familiarity with shipboard and shipyard technical standards, including equipment specifications and work items.
  • A minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in maritime settings is required.
  • Shipboard experience is highly desirable.
Essential Skills:
  • Strong technical aptitude in the design, analysis, fabrication, testing, and development of marine systems.
  • Knowledge of vessel Hull, Electrical, and Mechanical (HM&E) Systems.
  • Previous experience with vessel propulsion systems is strongly preferred.
  • Proficient in 3D/2D design software, with expertise in at least one of the following: Solidworks, CREO, Pro/E, or Nastran.
  • Experience in creating and managing documentation and spreadsheets to summarize work products, schedules, and technical challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in a technical context.
  • Hands-on mechanical skills, including experience with hand tools and mechanical repairs.
  • Familiarity with fabrication techniques such as welding, machining, and finishing.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research, perform tests, and analyze results to design and validate prototype and pre-production components and assemblies.
  • Generate technical documentation, reports, and summaries for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Create, review, and modify engineering drawings and prints.
  • Lead an engineering team to ensure accuracy and compliance with customer and internal standards.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing resources to ensure proper fabrication of designed components and validate production processes.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot prototype design iterations to resolve technical issues and meet development milestones.
  • Interpret specification documents to ensure compliance with all design requirements.
Certifications:
  • Must be a US Citizen or a US Green Card Holder.
  • OSHA 10 certification is preferred.
