About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Director of Medical Marketing to join our team at Abbott. As a key member of our Diabetes Care Division, you will be responsible for accelerating and driving strategic marketing focus for medical professionals.

This role requires a deep understanding of diabetes, staying on top of clinical data developments, fostering relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), and understanding competitors and how to position for success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Medical and Area/Country commercial teams on global KOL development strategy
  • Develop and execute a global tradeshow strategy including messaging priorities, designing and executing commercial symposia, ensuring pull through of key messaging and all international and key national tradeshows
  • Translate marketing messages for appropriate use by medical teams globally
  • Forge relationships with internal members of senior leadership, across disciplines and departments (Medical, Commercial, Product, Insights, Product Marketing, Public Affairs)
  • Upskill sales teams through translations of clinical and medical data for commercial use. Work with Product Marketing teams to enhance marketing materials
  • Increase marketing focus with HCPs to drive improvements in brand equity perceptions and propensity to prescribe FreeStyle Libre products (including digital ecosystem products and partnership products)
  • Assist in developments of key elements of Standards of Care including Time in Range and the use of sensors in all people with diabetes
  • Seed key new product messages in pre-launch phase in concert with medical, product marketing and commercial teams
  • Diligently monitor competitors and non-competitors to ensure the division defends against or pre-empts competitive marketing threats across geographic commercial areas
  • Identify, recruit, develop and/or train, in partnership with country/regional commercial leaders, internal and external talent to ensure we maintain medical marketing specific capabilities to drive market leading growth
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Communications, Marketing/Advertising, Business, Life Sciences, or a related field
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in consumer, HCP, or medical marketing, sales, or related commercial experience
  • Master's Degree, MBA preferred
  • Progressively more responsible business or health care company
  • Management experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and people management skills
  • Strong analytical and project management skills
  • Must demonstrate ability to effectively prioritize projects that align with corporate priorities
  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to set goals and provide positive and constructive feedback respectfully to build positive relationships and improve business results
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization
  • Multi-tasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner
  • Strong organizational, planning, and follow-up skills and ability to hold others accountable
  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross division business unit model preferred
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment
  • Ability to work effectively within a team in a fast-paced changing environment
