Position Overview

Under the guidance of the District Director and with the Conservationist Supervisor leading the team, the incumbent will oversee the operational aspects of the designated service district. The primary role involves supervising Corpsmembers during their work hours across various settings, including educational and emergency response environments.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to Corpsmembers during their work hours to ensure a structured and disciplined environment, fostering self-regulation and respect for peers.
  • Instruct Corpsmembers in fundamental project management and emergency response techniques.
  • Ensure effective oversight and organization of the work environment to maintain optimal working conditions, including managing cleanliness and order in shared living spaces.

Essential Qualifications

This role necessitates successful completion of the Conservationist 1 Exam and the ability to undergo CALFIRE basic fire training post-hire.

Work Environment

The duties will be performed in various environments, requiring adaptability to changing conditions. The work schedule is generally routine but may include extended hours during emergencies and special projects.

This position is classified as 'In Office' and does not permit telecommuting.

Physical Demands

The role involves strenuous physical activity, including lifting objects over 50 pounds, along with frequent bending, squatting, and navigating challenging terrains. Candidates should be prepared for diverse weather conditions, from extreme cold to heat, particularly during emergency response efforts.

Special Requirements

  • Successful completion of a drug screening prior to employment.
  • Clearance of a background investigation before hiring.

Conditional offers of employment will require candidates to fulfill several pre-employment criteria, including:

  • Background Investigation – Undergoing fingerprinting and passing a Criminal Offender Record Information check.
  • Medical Examination – A medical clearance is mandatory for this position.
  • Commercial Driver License – Evidence of obtaining a Commercial Class C license with a Passenger Transport Vehicle endorsement.
  • Pre-employment Drug Test – Passing a urine drug test is required for those in positions necessitating a commercial driver license.

Note: Candidates must complete the following training upon appointment:

  • CalFire Type 1 Fire Training Program – Successful completion of this 80-hour training, which includes a rigorous physical fitness component, is required.
