Position Overview

Under the guidance of the District Director and in collaboration with the Conservationist Supervisor, the incumbent will oversee the operational aspects of the designated service district. The primary focus of this role is to manage and mentor Corpsmembers during their work hours across various environmental and fire management settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, support, and direction to Corpsmembers during their work hours, ensuring adherence to discipline and fostering a sense of responsibility and teamwork.
  • Deliver training to Corpsmembers on fundamental project and fire crew operations, ensuring they are well-prepared for their tasks.
  • Maintain effective management of the work environment to promote safe and productive working conditions, including overseeing the dormitory maintenance schedule.

Important Requirements

This position necessitates successful completion of the Conservationist 1 Exam and the ability to undergo CALFIRE basic fire training following employment.

Work Environment

Work will take place in diverse settings, with a standard work schedule that may include extended hours during emergencies and special assignments.

This role is classified as "In Office" and does not permit telecommuting.

Physical Demands

The physical requirements for this position are rigorous, necessitating the ability to lift items weighing 50 pounds or more, alongside various physical activities such as pushing, pulling, bending, and hiking challenging terrains. Candidates should be prepared for fluctuating temperatures and conditions, particularly during emergency response efforts.

Special Conditions

  • Successful completion of a Drug Screening is required prior to employment.
  • A thorough Background Investigation must be cleared before hiring.

Selected candidates will need to fulfill several pre-employment requirements, including:

  • Background Investigation – Undergo fingerprinting and pass a Criminal Offender Record Information check.
  • Medical Examination – A medical clearance is mandatory for this classification.
  • Commercial Driver License – Evidence of obtaining a Commercial Class C license with a Passenger Transport Vehicle endorsement is required.
  • Pre-employment Drug Test – A urine drug test must be passed as part of the hiring process.

Upon appointment, candidates will be required to complete the following training:

  • CalFire Type 1 Fire Training Program – Successful completion of this 80-hour training, which includes a physical fitness component, is essential.
