Data Analyst Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Analyst to join our team at the County of San Mateo, CA. As a Data Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in examining and interpreting vast amounts of data to drive informed decision-making within the County.

Your responsibilities will cover a diverse range of tasks focused on data accuracy, quality, and utility. You will be responsible for analyzing and documenting data sources, profiles, populations, requirements, profiling methods, test scenarios, test cases, business objectives, analytical metrics, and data collection methods.

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, or Computer Science. Equivalent experience will be considered. A minimum of 3 years of experience working with database systems in a healthcare environment is required, as well as at least 1 year of experience on an implementation project.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing and documenting data sources, profiles, populations, requirements, profiling methods, test scenarios, test cases, business objectives, analytical metrics, and data collection methods
  • Performing data modeling, maintaining and improving Measure Certification & Validation Processes, and maintaining subject matter expertise on Innovaccer products
  • Exploring, examining, and interpreting large volumes of data, migrating data/workflows/pipelines, and programming in SQL and scripting languages
  • Administering Snowflake and Postgres, comparing and contrasting data before and after system builds/code updates, importing and exporting clinical data from other EMRs or health system data sources, and mapping clinical taxonomies
  • Managing healthcare data transmissions (X12, HL7, CCDA)

Key qualifications include:

  • Knowledge of various software packages, including word processing, spreadsheet, SQL database, and database management, and reporting tools
  • Principles and practices of configuring and implementing system backup solutions, principles and practices used in the operations, maintenance, repair, and administration of assigned systems and equipment, and basic data management theory, principles, and practices
  • Recent and on-going developments, current literature, and sources of information related to the operations of the assigned programs, principles and procedures of record keeping, customer service and telephone techniques, and modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications related to the work
  • English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and punctuation, techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with vendors and County staff, and skill/ability to perform basic technical support functions for assigned responsibilities, troubleshoot problems, and take appropriate action or escalate to appropriate staff as needed
