Job Summary:

As an ER Technician I at the University of Texas Medical Branch, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in the Emergency Department. Your primary responsibility will be to assist the healthcare team in delivering exceptional care to patients, ensuring their safety and well-being throughout their stay.

Key Responsibilities:

Collects, reports, and documents patient data, including vital signs, intake and output, and specimen collection.

Performs and reports Point of Care Testing, ensuring accurate results and timely communication to the healthcare team.

Assists with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse, including bathing, oral suctioning, and superficial wound care.

Provides for patients' personal hygiene, including ostomy care, and assists with patient feeding and elimination.

Ambulates, positions, and turns patients, and cares for those with altered mobility.

Assists with patient admission, transfer, and discharge, ensuring a smooth transition of care.

Maintains patient safety, including restraints and precautions, and collects and reports data related to patient needs and emergencies.

Cares for patients from correctional environments, maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.

Provides and maintains a clean, safe environment, adhering to aseptic technique, isolation procedures, and infection control measures.

Communicates clearly and professionally with the healthcare team, notifying charge nurses and on-coming staff of equipment issues and following up with the equipment manager.

Participates in quality improvement activities, demonstrating acceptable productivity and practicing cost containment.

Requirements:

High School or equivalent AND completion of one of the following technical programs: EMT program, recognized School of Nursing, active state EMS certification, or recognized military training as a US Army medic, US Navy Corpsmen, US Air Force Medic, or US Coast Guard Corpsmen.

Completion of ER Tech CBO Tool within 6 months of employment.

BLS from American Heart Association (AHA).
