Job Summary

The Bridge to Independence Program at Catholic Social Services of the Diocese of Scranton provides housing and supportive services for young adults, ages 18-26, with mental health concerns. Our primary objective is to develop and enhance life skills that enable program participants to live independently and attain self-sufficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a harmonious residential environment, free of tension and stress, to ensure all residents can live comfortably.
  • Utilize active listening techniques with residents to promote effective communication.
  • Teach residents appropriate interaction and activity of daily living skills to enhance their independence.
  • Promote and respect the dignity and self-worth of each individual resident.
  • Maintain a respectful environment amongst residents and support them in attaining their goals.
  • Monitor and ensure residents take medication as prescribed and maintain accurate records for each resident.
  • Document any unusual behavior, subsequent events, direction, and intervention in resident progress notes and staff communication logs.
  • Maintain documentation regarding whereabouts and activity of each resident and document ongoing goal attainment.
  • Complete incident reports in the event of an unusual occurrence, medical, or emergency situation.
  • Follow and enforce program house rules and monitor residents during evening and nighttime hours to ensure safety and well-being.
  • Maintain order during established quiet hours and perform hourly walk-throughs of the premises to ensure safety.
  • Give clear and concise shift reports to oncoming staff and attend staff meetings and supervisory meetings as assigned.
  • Participate in ongoing in-service and out-service training programs and complete monthly VIRTUS online training.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures defined by the program.
Requirements
  • A high school diploma; an associate's or bachelor's degree is desired, but experience may be substituted.
  • Good moral character, dependability, reliability, and emotional stability are essential.
  • A current/valid Pennsylvania driver's license and access to an insured automobile while on duty are required.
  • Criminal record check through Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History (PATCH), FBI Clearance, and State Child Abuse Clearance are necessary.
  • Random drug and alcohol testing consent is required.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications are necessary, with training provided during the employment orientation period.
  • VIRTUS training program completion is required, and employees must monitor the VIRTUS website and complete internet updates as assigned.
