Job SummaryThe Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in our pharmacy team, responsible for preparing, filling, and distributing medications and sterile products. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.
Key Responsibilities- Process orders for the preparation, filling, and refilling of medications for employee/take-home prescriptions, inpatients, floor stock, offsite facilities, or case carts.
- Distribute and refill medications in the Pyxis Medstations.
- Prepare intravenous admixtures, other sterile and non-sterile preparations, including parenteral nutrition, intravenous antibiotics, large volume intravenous additives, GU irrigant syringes, triple antibiotic irrigations, and narcotic analgesia syringes.
- Maintain quality of drugs by continuously monitoring expiration dates.
- Employ established policies, procedures, and standards for aseptic technique and handling sterile products.
- Maintain adequate inventory, including stocking shelves, procuring inventory, unit dose repackaging, and assuring appropriate levels of stock.
- Maintain computerized patient profile records with additions, deletions, or changes under the supervision of the pharmacist.
- Maintain an orderly, neat, and sterile work area, following appropriate policies and procedures when handling hazardous substances.
- Assist pharmacists in performing monthly inspections of medication storage in patient care areas.
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- Two years of college with appropriate science courses or completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician program.
- Two years as a pharmacy technician or related experience preferred.
- Hospital pharmacy technician experience is strongly preferred.
