Job Summary:

The Academic Advisor plays a critical role in ensuring students receive the necessary support and interventions to achieve academic success. This position operates in accordance with the NorthStar Academies Seven Non-negotiables and collaborates with team members to implement the five domains of the EdisonLearning Achievement Framework Model.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in district professional development and implement schoolwide programs.
  • Review and evaluate student placement tests, transcripts, and certifications.
  • Develop student schedules based on graduation requirements and career goals.
  • Manage the internal student information system and host new student orientations.
  • Participate in promotional meetings with feeder schools and community stakeholders.
  • Ensure a Graduation Plan is created for each student and all students are accurately assessed.
  • Plan an annual school testing calendar and coordinate testing materials and assessment sessions.
  • Coordinate testing rooms and ensure materials and supplies are available in all classrooms.
  • Assist with communication to parents and students of upcoming assessments.
  • Attend state, district, and in-house informational and training meetings related to assessments.
  • Lead in the collection and analysis of student performance data and provide student data to school administrators.
  • Work collaboratively with the school team to implement the Multi-tiered System of Support and provide behavioral and instructional support to students.
  • Assist students with college application processes and develop post-secondary plans.
  • Maintain confidentiality with student records and work professionally to achieve duties and responsibilities.
  • Maintain consistent contact with staff, teachers, students, families, and community agents.
  • Market scholarship opportunities to students and initiate partnerships with local high schools, vocational, colleges, and universities.
  • Schedule conferences with parents and students to discuss graduation tracks and academic progress.
  • Provide students with a positive role model and individual mentoring.
  • Convene scheduled meetings with school administration to discuss individual cases and student well-being.
