Job Overview

As a Mental Health Specialist in the Army National Guard, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being of our service members. You will work closely with the healthcare team to provide mental health care and treatment to individuals with psychiatric, drug, and alcohol concerns. Your duties will include collecting and recording patient data, counseling and treating patients with personal, behavioral, mental health, or substance abuse problems, and providing bedside care in hospitals.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide mental health care and treatment to service members
• Collect and record patient data
• Counsel and treat patients with personal, behavioral, mental health, or substance abuse problems
• Provide bedside care in hospitals

Requirements

• Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
• Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
• Must meet citizenship requirements
• Must be a high school graduate or have a GED certificate

Training and Education

Job training for Mental Health Specialists consists of 10 weeks of Basic Training and 20 weeks of Advanced Individual Training. Training includes both classroom and field work.
