Position Overview
Baylor Scott & White Health - Central Texas is in search of an experienced AGACNP to enhance their inpatient Thoracic Department.
ROLE SUMMARY
The Thoracic Nurse Practitioner - Non-Operative is a certified, licensed healthcare professional who provides direct patient care, possesses delegated prescriptive authority, and is recognized as an independent billing provider by Medicare and Medicaid. This Advanced Practice Provider delivers medical services aligned with the practice scope defined by the supervising physician. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting patient rounds and consultations
- Monitoring and managing ECMO and intubation
- Collaborating with surgical teams to establish optimal care plans
- Overseeing medication management
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluates patients' physical and mental health through comprehensive assessments and medical histories.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic tests to determine patient health needs.
- Prescribes and implements medical therapies and procedures, ensuring adherence to safety and efficacy standards.
- Develops and executes patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based practices, and collaboration with healthcare teams.
- Provides guidance to patients and families on health management, medication, and nutrition.
- Keeps detailed records of patient treatment plans and outcomes, initiating referrals when necessary.
- Offers specialized consultation services for conditions relevant to the provider's expertise.
- Manages patient care in various healthcare settings beyond primary clinics.
- Performs procedures within the scope of practice as directed by the supervising physician.
- Engages in pre- and post-operative patient follow-ups and may provide care in emergency settings.
- May need to fulfill additional patient care responsibilities based on departmental needs.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
- Comprehensive knowledge of diagnosing and treating health conditions.
- Understanding of methods for treating physical and mental health issues.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal abilities.

- Proficiency in using computers and healthcare software.
- Capability to develop effective patient treatment plans.
- Ability to counsel patients on medical and psychological conditions.
- Expertise in interpreting diagnostic tests.
- Possession of Texas RN licensure or compact privilege, along with Texas APRN certification.
- Current Nurse Practitioner license in Texas.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
- Certification from an accredited board as an APRN for the relevant patient population.
