  • Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology from an APA accredited program
  • Completion of an APA accredited internship
  • Experience in providing crisis intervention services
  • Experience providing consultation services
  • Experience developing and delivering prevention-related programming
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Candidate must be eligible for (or currently possess) licensure as a psychologist in the State of Texas. License must be obtained within 24 months of start date and must be maintained to remain eligible for employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of clinical experience in a higher education counseling setting or with a similar adult population, which may include pre-doctoral internship or postdoctoral residency
  • Experience working with the specific needs of student athletes
  • Experience consulting with sports medicine professionals, coaches, and other athletics staff
  • Interest/experience providing services to populations engaged in high-performance programs/professions
  • Experience with performance-based interventions and measurement processes/techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues, campus departments, and student groups
  • Experience providing services to First Generation student populations
  • Ability/experience providing services within a high-demand/fast-paced environment
  • Possess interpersonal flexibility with a sense of humor
  • An awareness of the importance of life balance
  • Commitment to a developmental approach to student services

Job Description: Responsible for counseling individuals facing personal and academic adjustment challenges. The institution serves a diverse student community, and staff are dedicated to providing services and programs that are responsive to and affirming of students. The Counseling Center is accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS) and hosts a well-respected APA-accredited doctoral internship program, along with practicum training and a post-doctoral residency.

This full-time position is integrated within the Department of Athletics in collaboration with the Counseling Center. The Department of Athletics is committed to fostering a championship environment that promotes competitive excellence, academic success, personal growth, brand awareness, and community pride.

The successful candidate will have a generalist orientation and demonstrate knowledge and experience relevant to the diverse presentations and backgrounds of student athletes. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing time-effective personal counseling (individual and group)
  • Conducting initial clinical assessments and triage
  • Delivering crisis intervention
  • Implementing outreach programming
  • Offering consultation services and training to coaches, medical staff, and athletic administration
  • Maintaining awareness of and working within NCAA policies
  • Navigating complex professional and administrative roles while fostering strong professional relationships and appropriate boundaries
  • Conducting clinical assessments
  • Providing clinical training and supervision, as available
  • Completing administrative duties, including participation in staff and committee meetings
  • Engaging in professional development and continuing education
  • Adhering to ethical codes of conduct and services
  • Providing services in a high-demand/fast-paced environment
  • Conducting services in-person or via a secure virtual platform
  • Performing other duties as assigned
