Job Title: Nurse Practitioner, Bureau of Public Health Clinics

The City of New York is seeking highly skilled Nurse Practitioners to join the Bureau of Public Health Clinics (BPHC) team. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in improving the sexual health of all New Yorkers.

Job Summary:

We are looking for experienced Nurse Practitioners to serve as Administrative Public Health Nurses Non-Managerial for the Abortion Access Initiative. In this role, you will provide high-quality patient care, conduct physical examinations, order relevant testing, and provide treatment for patients with STIs and HIV.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Obtain medical and sexual history
  • Conduct physical examinations
  • Order relevant stat and microbiologic testing
  • Make presumptive diagnoses of STIs
  • Provide treatment for patients with STIs and HIV
  • Provide counseling for medication abortion and dispensing abortion medications to patients in the clinic
  • Provide Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention
  • Provide all forms of contraception, including long-acting reversible contraception (LARC)
  • Provide vaccination for Hepatitis A and B, Meningitis, and HPV
  • Arrange referrals to clinics for other services as needed
  • Provide health education to patients
  • Rotate on the telemedicine service
  • Provide counseling and follow-up for medication abortion on the sexual health Telemedicine hotline
  • Rotate through the role of Admin NP on the Telemedicine service, including managing medication abortion and ultrasound appointments and supervision of clinicians providing counseling on medication abortion and LARC
  • Rotate through the role of Admin NP in the clinics as a supervisor of clinicians providing medication abortion and LARC
  • Obtain consent and dispense medication for medication abortions in the clinics for both appointment and walk-in patients
Qualifications:
  • A valid New York state license as a Registered Nurse, a baccalaureate degree in Nursing from an accredited college and a master's degree in Nursing, Public Health or a related field, plus four years of recent experience in public health or hospital nursing or a related field; at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive, consultative or educational capacity, or in supervision of professional public health nursing personnel working in any of the above mentioned areas; or
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must possess a valid New York State license as a Registered Nurse, and a baccalaureate degree in Nursing from an accredited college; and must possess the 18 months of specialized experience as described in "1" above.
