Job Description

At Staybridge Suites Des Moines, IA, we are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team. This role is responsible for performing routine maintenance in public spaces, meeting rooms, ballrooms, outlets, back of the house spaces, pool, and grounds.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle routine maintenance tasks, including repairs and replacements of equipment and fixtures.
  • Maintain rooms in optimal operating condition by performing repairs as needed.
  • Understand and implement the room preventative maintenance program.
  • Prepare preventative maintenance cart for use each day.
  • Repair televisions, phones, clock radios, and other electronic devices.
  • Replace or repair damaged bathroom fixtures and execute general plumbing as needed.
  • Maintain the overall appearance of the room, including replacing broken mirrors, hanging fixtures, and performing touch-up painting.
  • Troubleshoot rooms heating/ventilating/air conditioning systems.
  • Use power and hand tools safely and efficiently.
  • Perform preventative maintenance throughout other areas of the hotel, including the front of the house, interior, and exterior.
  • Maintain the condition of hotel lobbies and restaurants, repairing furniture and decorations as necessary.
  • Repair carpet, marble, and tile.
  • Repair and maintain kitchen and laundry/housekeeping equipment.
  • Repair and replace windows and mirrors.
  • Maintain the exterior of the building and grounds as needed.
  • Attend schools or seminars to stay current on proper techniques.
  • May be asked to perform routine pool operations (CPO certification required).
  • Maintain operating equipment in working condition by performing routine equipment checks and repairs.
  • Maintain and assist in the cleanliness of individual work areas.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with the hotel's safety systems and take corrective action on any maintenance or operating problems that affect the security or operating condition of the hotel.
  • Report any hazards or injuries in the department and take immediate action to correct.
  • Contribute to the hotel's preparedness during fire emergencies by participating in the hotel fire team.
  • Handle master keys in accordance with Company standards for the overall safety and security of the hotel.

    • Respond to guest concerns, complaints, or suggestions appropriately, referring them to management in support of providing superior guest service.
    • May gather waste and/or contaminated materials for disposal. Assigned areas of the hotel may include guestrooms, hallways, lobby, stairwells, and offices.
    • Maintain privacy and security by properly announcing entry and servicing guestrooms as appropriate.
    • Clean guestrooms to the level of standards set by the Hotel, including stripping of soiled items and trash, bed making, cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, dusting, and replacing amenities and supplies.
    • Properly use and maintain assigned equipment and supplies to departmental specifications, including vacuums, chemicals, and cleaning aides.
    • Observe status and maintain common areas, including floor closets, stairwells, halls, lobby areas, and elevators.
    • Properly maintain the daily log, including accounting for completed tasks, tracking issued keys, and reviewing the communications log and file on a routine basis.
    • Properly handle lost and found items in accordance with department policies and security procedures.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
    • Keep immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems or matters of significance.
    • Perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with established company policies and procedures to achieve the overall objectives of this position.
    • At all times project a favorable image of The Hotel Group to the public.
    • Maintain safe working conditions within department and Hotel.
