Job Summary

This is a challenging opportunity to join Harnett Co as a Utility System Pump Technician I. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper operation of waste lift stations and water booster pump stations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Check the SCADA system daily to identify any issues with waste lift stations and water booster pump stations.
  • Verify the operation of lift stations, including floats, transducers, and pumps.
  • Ensure the correct functioning of control panels.
  • Inspect valves and pumps, and notify others of any problems.
  • Perform routine checks and maintenance on generators.
  • Adjust valves as needed.
  • Check tanks for leaks.
  • Clean step screens and press.
  • Assist in cleaning and/or replacing PRVS and ARVS.
  • Rebuild or replace vacuum bowls, vacuum pumps, volutes, mechanical seals, and impellers.
  • Replace worn parts.
  • Change belts.
  • Keep oil changed and pumps/bearings greased.
  • Change filters and/or hydraulic fluids.
  • Replace sump pumps as needed.
  • Keep generators fueled.
  • Work on-call as scheduled or as needed for emergencies.
  • Must be able to drive and operate a vehicle to travel as needed.
Requirements
  • High school diploma.
  • Two (2) years of related work experience.
  • Or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Possession of Certification in Maintenance (Grade 1) desired.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices associated with repair and maintenance of water and sewer pumping stations, including mechanical and repair.
  • Knowledge of the County's personnel and purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in such repair work.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
  • Knowledge of the related engineering specifications.
  • Skill in operating heavy construction equipment.
  • Ability to keep records of work activities.
Physical Demands

The employee must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects; frequently requiring 30 pounds of force to move objects; and occasionally requiring to exert up to 100 pounds of force to move objects.

Work Environment

The employee is subject to working in both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, poor ventilation, and oils.
