Position Overview:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role in delivering clinical assistance within the designated Division of the Department.

The primary focus of this role is to guarantee the provision of safe, high-quality, and efficient healthcare services to patients under the supervision of a Medical Doctor (MD), Advanced Practice Nurse (APN), Physician Assistant (PA), or Registered Nurse (RN). This position embodies the mission and vision of the institution by striving to provide the utmost quality care to patients, their families, and collaborating effectively with colleagues, physicians, and the communities served.


Sign-On Bonus:

A $7,500 sign-on bonus is currently available for candidates who meet the employment criteria.


Key Responsibilities:
  1. Nursing Duties (80%):
    A. Deliver nursing care in a clinical setting, which may include obtaining patient histories, assisting with physical examinations, administering medications, providing wound care, and documenting nursing activities accurately.
    B. Coordinate procedures, surgeries, admissions, and pre-certifications for patients as directed by the MD, APN, PA, or RN.
    C. Provide clerical support during clinic operations, including answering phones, faxing, and general administrative tasks.
    D. Administer medications and perform nursing procedures in accordance with established guidelines.
    E. Conduct laboratory and procedural testing per clinic protocols, reporting findings to the supervising medical staff.
    F. Assist with procedures by preparing necessary setups under the guidance of the supervising medical personnel.
    G. Organize patient flow within the clinic to enhance physician productivity and reduce wait times.
    H. Schedule follow-up activities, including radiology studies and other testing as ordered.
    I. Prepare for upcoming clinics by gathering relevant patient history and medical documentation.
    J. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
    K. Maintain and utilize equipment necessary for patient assessment and treatment.
    L. Support administrative staff in ensuring accurate nursing procedures and reporting any concerns.
    M. Act as a liaison between healthcare facilities and specialty agencies.
    N. Function as a primary or backup nurse as needed, following directives from the primary nurse and physician.
    O. Perform nursing duties in other divisions as assigned by the Charge Nurse.
    P. Serve as a resource for department staff.
  2. Education Duties (10%):
    A. Participate in patient education and community outreach programs.
    B. Provide orientation and training for nursing personnel, students, and residents.
    C. Assist in instructing administrative staff regarding patient activities.
    D. Serve as a resource for the public seeking information about the Division and the Department of Surgery.
    E. Complete annual training and competency assessments.
  3. Administrative Duties (5%):
    A. Complete charge tickets for nursing services rendered.
    B. Ensure that tests and surgeries are precertified according to insurance requirements.
    C. Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies for clinic operations and recommend additional resources as needed.
    D. Attend departmental and divisional meetings.
    E. Perform other assigned duties.
  4. Research Duties (5%):
    A. Assist in implementing research projects related to patient care.
    B. Adhere to research protocols while providing patient care and documenting according to standards.
    C. Collect data for research purposes.
    D. Complete required training for participation in research activities.
Qualifications:
1) Valid license as a Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
2) Minimum of 6 months of nursing experience in a healthcare setting.
Conditions of Employment:
Out-of-state residents hired into this position must establish Illinois residency within a specified timeframe.
