The Pediatric Surgical Care Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the nursing staff in delivering comprehensive care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative assistance, patient transportation, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide essential support to the nursing team in the care of surgical patients.
- Assist with the transportation of patients to and from surgical areas.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work environments, ensuring all areas are stocked with necessary supplies.
- Support respiratory care tasks and contribute to routine operations within the unit.
- Ensure a safe and sanitary environment for both patients and staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of departmental clinical support or PCA orientation.
- Certification in Basic Life Support or HeartSaver First Aid is required within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in patient care settings.
- Background as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA) is advantageous.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Capacity to lift weights up to 60 pounds and maneuver heavy carts exceeding 200 pounds.
- Required visual and auditory acuity, along with manual dexterity and technical skills.
Work Environment:
- Engagement in direct patient care.
- Exposure to high-stress situations.
- Potential contact with communicable diseases, body fluids, and hazardous materials.
Essential Skills:
- Demonstrated personal hygiene and professionalism.
- Ability to comprehend and follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Strong teamwork and communication capabilities.
- Familiarity with Safe Patient Handling equipment.
