Role Overview: As a Senior Substance Abuse Counselor, you will lead and mentor fellow counselors. Your responsibilities will include managing a personal caseload, engaging in various facility committees, and executing additional management-related tasks as directed by the Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Director. You will also support the Clinical Supervisor/Clinical Director in problem-solving, conflict resolution, and preparation for state and CARF inspections.

Key Responsibilities:
Ensure the accurate completion of patient databases, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other critical documentation in compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and agency policies. Provide patients with orientation regarding program objectives, phase system requirements, rules and regulations, sanctions, hours of service, patient rights, and additional information to facilitate their adjustment to the program. Ensure each patient is assessed and placed according to treatment phases in alignment with federal and state standards and agency policies. Maintain all clinical documentation and patient charts in accordance with established policies and procedures. Counsel patients in crisis situations by identifying available resources and coping strategies to assist them in managing and resolving crises. Counsel patients who have not complied with specific program requirements to enhance their understanding of the consequences of noncompliance. Facilitate referrals to community agencies and resources when appropriate. Conduct treatment plan reviews. Participate in case conferences and reviews as per established policies and procedures. Review counselor documentation and provide sign-off as directed by the Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Director. Assist in the overall direction and development of all substance abuse services. Engage in treatment team meetings and grievance hearings as necessary. Conduct or assist with weekly staff meetings with the counseling team. Participate in ongoing reviews of counselor case files to ensure compliance with federal, state, and agency requirements. Assist the Clinical Supervisor/Director with annual performance evaluations of counseling staff. Support the Clinical Supervisor/Clinical Director as needed during state and CARF inspections, staff meetings, and other areas. Assist with in-service training for clinical teammates on a regular basis. Regularly monitor clinical records for quality and compliance with state and federal regulations, conducting mock inspections as necessary. Perform intakes on new patients. Develop preliminary and comprehensive treatment plans. Provide training and technical assistance to community agencies as requested. Offer guidance to counselors in managing challenging or complex patients. Maintain accurate and up-to-date case files for each patient on your caseload and the team caseload in accordance with federal, state, and agency requirements. Oversee substance abuse counseling case assignments and discharges. Attend team meetings and complete all required training courses in a timely manner. Participate in ongoing training as per program, federal, and state requirements. Other duties as assigned.Compensation Range:
$/hour to $/hourRequired Qualifications:
Certification as an Alcohol and Other Drug Counselor from a California-approved certification agency or current credentials as licensed or license-eligible with the Board of Behavioral Sciences or the Board of Psychology. If license-eligible, must adhere to the Board's requirements, including receiving the necessary clinical supervision from a Board-approved supervisor. Proof of licensure or certification from a state-approved regulatory agency is required immediately upon employment. Employees must be credentialed prior to providing any counseling services as per the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). Qualifications and supporting documentation will be evaluated for approval. Proficiency in evaluating patients, treatment planning, and delivering counseling services. Knowledge of the use, abuse, and treatment of illicit drugs and addiction. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Professional demeanor and customer service practices. Competence with Microsoft Office programs. Proof of licensure or certification from a state-approved regulatory agency is required immediately upon employment. Employees must be credentialed prior to providing any counseling services as per the DHCS. Qualifications and supporting documentation will be evaluated for approval.Preferred Qualifications:
