Job Overview: The Emergency Care Technician II operates under the supervision of the Nurse Manager. This role involves performing a variety of essential tasks to support a patient-centered care model, ensuring optimal outcomes for patients.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a High School diploma or GED. Preferred candidates will have experience as a Patient Care Technician, nursing assistant, or be nursing students enrolled in an accredited program, having completed at least one Adult Medical/Surgical course with practical clinical exposure. A minimum of 1 year of experience in patient care within a healthcare setting is required, or candidates must be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

Within six months of employment, successful completion of online training modules, phlebotomy training, and skills validation for both basic and advanced skills, as well as EKG training, is mandatory. An 80% passing rate on each assessment is required within two attempts, or employment may be terminated. Completion of unit-specific training and competency assessments is also required within the first six months of employment.

This position may necessitate working irregular hours in high-pressure situations, including rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Adherence to the policies of the Medical University of South Carolina is essential, and failure to comply may result in disciplinary actions, including termination. A copy of academic credentials or transcripts is required for positions within the Emergency Department.

Licensure and Certifications:

Required qualifications include a High School Diploma, BLS certification from the Red Cross or AHA, and certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) from the state of South Carolina.

Physical Demands:

The role requires the ability to perform various physical tasks, including:

  • Standing, sitting, and walking frequently
  • Climbing stairs infrequently
  • Working indoors continuously
  • Performing repetitive motions with hands and arms frequently
  • Lifting and carrying up to 15 lbs. unassisted infrequently

Additional physical requirements include maintaining vision and hearing acuity, performing gross motor functions, and working in a latex-safe environment.
