Established by parents of children with special needs, RIPIN is primarily staffed by individuals who themselves are parents or caregivers of those with special needs. Annually, RIPIN supports over 45,000 residents of Rhode Island by helping them navigate the complexities of healthcare, education, and support services.

Job Overview:

The Consumer Resource Specialist will provide telephonic support to individuals as they navigate health insurance and coverage regulations. Key responsibilities include delivering information, resources, guidance, and assistance in a peer-to-peer support framework to consumers and their families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver thorough phone support to consumers regarding health-related inquiries, offering information, resources, and problem-solving assistance.
  • Guide consumers in comprehending and utilizing the appeals process associated with health insurance.
  • Work collaboratively with RIPIN team members to create outreach strategies for call center initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare systems and human services.
  • Strong communication skills paired with exceptional interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in both English and Spanish is preferred.
Education and Experience:
  • A high school diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Personal experience in navigating healthcare systems is highly valued.
  • Experience working with diverse communities is essential.
Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly required to talk, stand, walk, sit, use hands for various tasks, and reach with arms.
  • Capability to lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
  • The primary work setting is a climate-controlled indoor office, with potential visits to community locations.
  • Flexibility for travel related to job responsibilities is necessary.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license.
