The University of California is in search of a dedicated Financial Counselor to become a vital part of the Department of Psychiatry.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collecting and verifying comprehensive financial and demographic information from patients.
2. Acting as a liaison among patients, healthcare providers, and various hospital departments.
3. Monitoring accounts for any alterations in status, including insurance adjustments.
4. Coordinating self-pay deposits and securing sponsorships.
5. Evaluating patients to ascertain eligibility for government assistance programs.
6. Providing support to patients regarding billing questions and concerns.
7. Performing additional tasks as required.
Compensation:
Hourly wage ranges from $29.42 to $42.14.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience with Medi-Cal, HMO's, PPO's, and third-party payers, including knowledge of authorizations and eligibility criteria.
- Proficient typing skills.
- At least two years of experience in securing insurance benefits, eligibility, and authorizations.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Windows, Outlook, and basic PC applications.
- Preferred knowledge of NPBHS and Medical Enterprise supported services, including Care Connect (EPIC) systems.
- Capability to manage patient interactions, registration, and appointment scheduling through computerized systems.
- Ability to handle responsibilities amidst frequent interruptions and distractions.
- Competence in performing basic arithmetic operations to assess financial eligibility or necessary deposits.
- Understanding of various departments, patient-related policies, and a solid grasp of the University system and its services (preferred).
- Strong communication skills to engage effectively with individuals from diverse social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds.
