Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician Specialist to join our team at Brown University Health. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications, including hazardous substances and controlled substances.
  • Rotate to all applicable work assignments and work shifts as business need dictates, contingent upon individual demonstrated competency of necessary skills and knowledge for the respective area.
  • Utilize experience-based knowledge to perform advanced technical functions, including preparing, formulating, and packaging medications and pharmaceutical supplies.
  • Interact professionally with patients, customers, practitioners, and their support personnel to obtain accurate information and process prescriptions and payment transactions.
  • Access, input, and retrieve necessary information using multiple pharmacy system applications.
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent degree; completion of one to two years of college preferred.
  • Maintains current unrestricted Rhode Island Pharmacy Technician licensure.
  • Holds and maintains current National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) or has a minimum of one-year licensed pharmacy technician work experience.
  • Strong customer service presence and verbal and written communication skills necessary to interact effectively with patients, customers, practitioners, and ancillary staff.
  • Ability to multi-task and reprioritize as needed while maintaining accuracy and service standards.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

The work environment is fast-paced and requires the ability to maintain attention to detail to avoid errors in medication dispensing and payment transactions. The physical demands of the job include the ability to lift, carry, and maneuver medication delivery equipment and pharmaceutical-related inventories.

New hires into this position must successfully pass a drug screen in conformance with Rhode Island State Law.
