Medical Laboratory Assistant

The Medical Laboratory Assistant plays a vital role in the pre-analytical and preparatory stages of clinical laboratory testing. This position is responsible for performing various tasks to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of laboratory results.
Key Responsibilities- Prepares specimens for testing, including centrifuging, pouring off blood and body fluids, and preparing specimens for staining and microscopic examination.
- Performs pipetting techniques for specimen preparations and loading primary bar-coded clinical specimens on analyzers.
- Prepares microbiology specimens for cultures and gram stains, including inoculation of culture plates and slide preparation.
- Handles biohazard wastes according to policy and maintains a clean and organized work area.
- Assists with coverage of the pneumatic tube system and processes and distributes specimens.
- Performs quality checks on equipment and reports any issues to management.
- Documents all corrective actions taken when the test process deviates from established performance specifications.
- Basic computer skills and medical terminology.
- Registration and phlebotomy skills or equivalent combination of clinical/clerical skills.
- Ability to successfully complete an in-laboratory training program and competency assessment.
- Valid Tennessee driver's license and state-mandated minimum insurance coverage.
