Position Title: Custodial Services Specialist

Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial

Location: Districtwide

Shift: Second shift during the academic year; first shift during winter and summer breaks.

Hourly Rate: $21.03, plus an additional $0.30 for night shifts.

Overview: The Custodial Services Specialist is responsible for executing daily cleaning and minor maintenance tasks that contribute to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role is essential in supporting the mission of the Dubuque Community Schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure punctuality and regular attendance.
  2. Follow detailed oral and written instructions for daily tasks.
  3. Maintain accurate records of cleaning and maintenance activities.
  4. Engage positively with students, staff, and visitors.
  5. Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors through verbal and written means.
  6. Handle heavy objects and operate necessary equipment safely.
  7. Adapt to various weather conditions while performing duties.
  8. Utilize aerial devices such as ladders and lifts as required.
  9. Demonstrate knowledge of cleaning chemicals, materials, and equipment.
  10. Utilize computer applications for reporting and communication purposes.
  11. Exhibit a positive attitude while adhering to district policies and procedures.

Essential Duties:

  1. Unlock and secure buildings and rooms as necessary.
  2. Perform floor maintenance including mopping and operating cleaning machines.
  3. Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on furnishings.
  4. Prepare facilities for events and programs.
  5. Clean various surfaces including ceilings, walls, and fixtures.
  6. Assist with outdoor maintenance such as snow removal and lawn care.
  7. Manage waste disposal and maintain cleanliness in and around the building.
  8. Operate and maintain heating and ventilation equipment.
  9. Support safety and security protocols within the building.
  10. Be available for emergency situations and additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. Experience in custodial or maintenance roles is preferred but not mandatory.
