Job Overview

A Healthcare Assistant is responsible for delivering patient care in an outpatient clinic environment. This role involves supporting patients with both urgent and ongoing health concerns at the Wellington Lung and Sleep Clinic.

Work Schedule: Tuesday - Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. No weekends or holidays. This position encompasses responsibilities at both the front desk and in clinical support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts general administrative and patient care duties in line with established protocols and the Intermountain MGPSMA Scope of Practice.
  • Communicates effectively and courteously within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Welcomes and prepares patients for their appointments while fostering a supportive and compassionate atmosphere.
  • Attentively addresses patient needs, coordinates care, administers treatments, and accurately documents all interactions.
  • Ensures patient safety and confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA regulations.
  • Collects and records essential patient information, including vital signs, medical history, and current medications.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  • May perform blood draws and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis as needed.
  • As directed by the Provider, may conduct routine tests such as EKGs and vision screenings.
  • Schedules patients for necessary diagnostic tests and follows up to ensure completion.
  • Communicates test results to patients and collaborates on care plans as instructed by the Provider.
  • Documents care plans, test results, and examination findings in the medical record as per Provider instructions.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of patient exam rooms, sterilizes instruments, and disposes of waste according to protocols.
  • Administers prescribed medications and vaccines through various methods as required.
  • Escalates any non-standard issues or concerns to the practice manager or healthcare providers.
  • Completes safety checklists and quality control measures as necessary.
  • Exhibits sound judgment and remains composed in emergency situations.
  • Promotes the mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health while adhering to service behavior standards.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current BLS Certification required upon hire or within 60 days of hire.
  • One year of experience as a Medical Assistant, including phlebotomy.
  • Successful completion of initial onboarding and annual skills assessments.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Completion of a National Certification Exam for Certified Medical Assistants (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing visual acuity to read information and assess patient needs, along with the ability to communicate verbally and hear accurately in various situations. Manual dexterity is required for operating equipment and performing tasks, as well as the ability to lift and move patients and supplies as necessary.
