Position Overview:
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist plays a vital role in delivering compassionate and informative patient care. This includes the meticulous preparation, calibration, and administration of radiopharmaceuticals and medications, alongside the execution of quality control protocols and the operation of imaging and laboratory equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
The primary duties of the Nuclear Medicine Technologist encompass the following:

  • Assist patients in transitioning from stretchers or wheelchairs to imaging tables while clearly explaining procedures.
  • Prepare the examination room, ensuring all necessary equipment and materials are ready for patient procedures.
  • Verify patient identity to prevent errors, ensuring that the patient ID band matches the request.
  • Monitor patients throughout procedures, promptly reporting any complications or unusual occurrences.
  • Perform necessary clerical tasks associated with patient exams and manage patient visit records.
  • Enhance patient flow by coordinating with nursing staff and other personnel.
  • Provide educational guidance to student technologists from affiliated programs, helping them achieve their learning objectives.
  • Adhere to radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure to patients, staff, and oneself.

Professional Conduct:
Maintain a professional demeanor while interacting with patients and colleagues. Ensure accurate record-keeping for patient examinations and manage clerical duties related to patient care.

Technical Proficiency:
Be proficient in preparing, measuring, and administering radiopharmaceutical doses through various methods, including injection and inhalation. Demonstrate skill in introducing intravenous catheters for medication administration and conduct blood glucose tests as necessary.

Quality Assurance:
Utilize quality management techniques for patient identification, employing two unique identifiers to ensure accuracy. Perform radionuclide therapy and manage the preparation of studies for nuclear medicine computerized records.

Work Environment:
This position typically operates on a Monday to Friday schedule, with the possibility of rotating call shifts during weekdays, weekends, and holidays. This role is not designed for virtual work.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and possess certification in nuclear medicine technology from recognized boards. Experience in a similar role is essential, demonstrating the ability to provide high-quality nuclear medicine services.

Physical Requirements:
This role requires physical stamina, including the ability to lift heavy objects, stand for extended periods, and navigate various work environments safely.
