Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist Assistant

Job Summary:

The Speech Language Pathologist Assistant will contribute to the specialized educational services to students with special needs in the area of speech and language communication. This role requires a high level of professional decorum and the ability to act as a role model for young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Speech Language Pathologist with the assessment and treatment of students with speech and language challenges.
  • Provide direct treatment to students in accordance with an established instructional plan and under the supervision of a Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Assist in planning appropriate interventions for identified students and collecting data to assess their effectiveness.
  • Document student progress toward instructional plan objectives.
  • Work with individuals or small groups of students to reinforce instruction from the Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Conduct speech and language screenings, without interpretation, in accordance with specified protocols.
  • Adapt instructional materials for teacher use in the classroom as determined by student needs.
  • Perform various clerical tasks, including maintaining student records and reports, preparing instructional and classroom materials, and maintaining speech and language equipment.

Requirements:

  • Must possess an associate's degree or other certification from an accredited speech language pathology assistant program.
  • Must possess an Oregon state speech-language pathology assistant certification.
  • Must possess an Oregon state driver's license.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to read, write, understand, and follow multi-step written and verbal instructions in English.

Working Conditions:

The Speech Language Pathology Assistant works primarily indoors. The position requires the ability to speak with proper English enunciation, pronunciation, and grammar. It further requires the ability to hear and write. The incumbent will also occasionally be required to kneel, bend, or crouch. Potential exposures may include blood-borne pathogens and sick, injured, or agitated students.

Work Year: Approximately 183 Days
