Job Summary

The Plant Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all plant systems and equipment. This includes monitoring and maintaining balers, conveyor belts, gearboxes, electrical motors, pulleys, shafts, and bearings. The successful candidate will respond to system failures by taking corrective action and completing or assigning repairs to ensure systems are operational and functioning safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform repairs in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules and OSHA requirements.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance inspections (PM) and diagnose, repair, and rebuild major equipment/components.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA Standards.
  • Establish and adjust work procedures to meet production schedules and advise Sr. Plant Maintenance Manager if additional work is needed or cannot be completed within Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
  • Inspect the quality of third-party repairs and/or rebuilds.
  • Recommend measures to improve production, equipment performance, and product quality.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities.
  • Perform service calls for emergency breakdowns.
  • Ability to perform under limited supervision.
  • Requires a flexible work schedule, which may include nights and weekends to support operating schedules and the needs of the facility.
Requirements
  • 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Successfully complete pre-employment drug screen and physical.
  • Proficient in welding and fabrication.
  • Knowledge of single and three-phase electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical control systems.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of pneumatic systems, including air compressors.
Work Environment

The Plant Maintenance Technician will work in a material recycle facility, repair/maintenance facility, outdoors, or other facilities. The position requires the ability to use motor coordination with arms, hands, fingers, and legs, and to engage in physical activity that includes pushing, pulling, bending, and lifting objects more than 50 pounds. The employee will be exposed to a physical environment involving dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes, or similar elements most of the workday.
