Position Overview

The Meat Operations Supervisor is responsible for the procurement, handling, preparation, and presentation of all meat products available for sale.

Eligibility

This position is available to current employees within the agency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Anticipating customer demand for meat products.
  • Ensuring all meat items are appropriately trimmed, sorted, cut, packaged, priced, and displayed attractively.
  • Maintaining sufficient inventory levels of processed and vendor-packaged meats to satisfy customer needs.
  • Utilizing automated pricing systems to manage pricing, conduct price adjustments, and oversee inventory management.
  • Creating and updating promotional and seasonal displays to enhance product visibility.
  • Regularly inspecting processing areas, display cases, and storage facilities to ensure cleanliness and compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Overseeing equipment maintenance and ensuring proper safety protocols are followed by all staff.
  • Directing departmental operations and providing guidance to meatcutters and other staff involved in meat department functions.
Work Environment
  • Most tasks are performed in a well-lit store environment maintained at a comfortable temperature.
  • Exposure to cold temperatures is common in receiving and storage areas.
  • There is a risk of injury from operating meat processing equipment and handling heavy products.
Qualifications

Applicants must meet specific qualifications and requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

To qualify at the GS-8 level, candidates must possess specialized experience, education, or a combination of both. Specialized experience includes knowledge of retail procurement and distribution methods, food merchandising principles, and retail management practices.

Examples of qualifying experience include:
  • Managing a retail food department or store.
  • Planning and controlling operations within a group of retail food stores.
  • Providing technical guidance on merchandising and operational issues related to grocery and meat supplies.
Physical Requirements

Applicants must be able to lift and handle products weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and occasionally more with assistance.
