Role Summary:
We are in search of a committed Maintenance Unit Supervisor for our Rolling Department. The ideal candidate will offer leadership and direction to a team, ensuring the effective production of metal within a streamlined manufacturing setting. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Superintendent, this position emphasizes productivity, safety, quality, and problem-solving to achieve business objectives in a cost-efficient and customer-focused manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety and Environmental Standards: Uphold a secure work environment and guarantee that the workplace is devoid of hazards to personnel or the environment. Facilitate individual safety discussions and perform job-specific safety evaluations.
  • Operational Oversight: Enhance operational outcomes by managing the team with an emphasis on quantity, quality, timeliness, safety, recovery, and delivery performance. Foster team development through challenging assignments and by providing training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Task Distribution: Equitably and transparently assign tasks to team members, prioritizing responsibilities based on business urgency. Strategically plan and allocate crew arrangements for both scheduled and unscheduled situations, taking into account absences, scheduling needs, and equipment availability.
  • Technical Guidance: Lead a proficient maintenance workforce that values diversity, customer focus, and adaptability. Collaborate with skilled tradespeople to implement root cause analysis and problem-solving strategies to maintain or restore production.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect data to support the application of root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques for significant exceptions. Ensure effective asset management to optimize equipment performance and long-term sustainability.
  • Lean Manufacturing Practices: Promote business goals concerning quality, cost management, waste reduction, and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Performance Evaluation: Make informed decisions regarding performance, recognizing and rewarding accomplishments while addressing disciplinary matters fairly and consistently. Maintain documentation to substantiate actions taken.
  • Relationship Development: Cultivate relationships and influence others to resolve issues, shift perspectives, and enhance customer satisfaction.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) from an accredited institution
  • A minimum of 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience with direct reports
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States (Visa sponsorship is not available)
  • U.S. person status as defined by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Mechanical expertise is advantageous
  • Experience in a unionized environment is beneficial
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and concepts (ABS)
