Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Code Compliance Supervisor is accountable for overseeing the administrative functions, management, strategic planning, and execution of the Code Compliance Department. This role involves coordinating enforcement initiatives with Code Compliance Officers, training new personnel, and conducting both routine and intricate technical inspections related to Code Compliance, municipal ordinances, and various standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise the scheduling and coordination of Code Compliance staff, assigning daily tasks based on service requirements.
  2. Collaborate with contractors to address and rectify violations.
  3. Inspect abandoned and existing structures to ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, and structural integrity standards.
  4. Conduct inspections of properties to mitigate hazards related to fire safety, overgrown vegetation, litter, and other nuisances.
  5. Perform on-site evaluations of both commercial and residential properties to ensure adherence to building, zoning, and nuisance codes.
  6. Address complaints regarding potential code violations and conduct thorough investigations, gathering evidence and issuing necessary warnings or citations.
  7. Engage with property owners, tenants, and contractors to clarify health and code requirements, ensuring compliance.
  8. Draft and disseminate various forms of communication regarding code compliance issues.
  9. Maintain detailed logs and records of inspection and enforcement activities, and propose amendments to existing codes as necessary.
  10. Coordinate with various departments and agencies to ensure comprehensive enforcement of codes.
  11. Prepare and present cases for trial, focusing on evidentiary and legal aspects crucial for successful prosecution.
  12. Conduct inspections in food service establishments to ensure compliance with health regulations.
  13. Participate in training and professional development to stay informed of current trends in code compliance.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent, along with two years of relevant experience in inspection, law enforcement, or public administration. A valid driver's license and certification as a Code Enforcement Officer are required within specified timeframes.


Skills and Abilities:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills, effective communication abilities, and a solid understanding of municipal codes and enforcement practices. The ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment and work independently is essential.


Work Environment:

This position involves considerable outdoor work and may expose the employee to various weather conditions and physical demands. The employee must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and performing inspections in diverse settings.
