Job Summary

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a highly skilled Physician - Medical Director of Primary Care to lead our Primary Care Clinic. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing administrative, programmatic, and clinical leadership to ensure the achievement of clinical, research, and education goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee administrative operations for patient care in the Primary Care Clinic, ensuring compliance with VHA, VACO, VISN, DVAHCS, Medical Bylaws, Primary Care SOPs, and all other federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Develop, review, and implement clinic policies and procedures as needed, with final approval from the Associate Chief of Staff - Ambulatory Care Service.
  • Train clinic and ancillary staff on new policies and procedures, ensuring effective and efficient implementation.
  • Ensure communication and collaboration with Ancillary Services and their leadership.
  • Work seamlessly with other healthcare team members and support VA patient satisfaction initiatives.
  • Coordinate and promote clinic-level Quality Improvement and Utilization Review.
  • Provide independent clinical evaluation of Veterans through their panel of patients, including prevention and patient self-management.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans, incorporating shared medical decision-making for health promotion, disease prevention, and management of chronic medical conditions.
  • Promote, direct, evaluate, and be responsible for referral management of clinical concerns identified during evaluations.
  • Function as a member of a Patient Aligned Care Team, collaborating with clinical and administrative support to provide timely, quality, coordinated care for Veterans.
  • Utilize and promote approved standards of care, procedures, methods, and techniques, safety precautions, and protocols.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare resources to ensure continuity of care.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, skills, procedures, and protocols relevant in Primary Care.
  • Participate in continuous medical education, including topics such as opioid prescribing and trainings to fulfill and maintain designated women's health primary care provider requirements.
Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship (non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy).
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience
  • 3 years of outpatient primary care experience.
  • Residency completion in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
  • Outpatient leadership/supervisory experience.
  • Quality improvement experience.
