Purpose of Position:

Under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse, this associate provides treatments and care delivery for patients within the Emergency Department.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts interviews of clients to obtain personal and medical information, and appropriate health history.
  • Prepares collected specimens for laboratory-testing by performing venipuncture and/or finger stick testing.
  • Operates electrocardiograph equipment to record electrical wave tracing of the electrical current of the heart muscle and refers to EKG readings to the Registered Nurse or Emergency Department provider.
  • Checks vital signs, weight, and measures patients, performs vision and hearing testing, and records findings on patient charts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization.
  • Successful completion of a NYS Department of Health prescribed training program for Phlebotomy, satisfactory to the Laboratory Director.
  • Completion of a healthcare setting-based training program in the performance of electrocardiographs and basic life support procedures, including certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation.

Special Note:

In addition to meeting the qualifications above, assignment to a long-term care facility requires a New York State Nurse's Aide Certificate.
