Emergency Department Associate

NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx (NCB) is a member facility of the New York City Health + Hospitals system, one of eleven acute care facilities within the City of New York.

Purpose of Position:
Under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse, this associate provides treatments and care delivery for patients within the Emergency Department.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts interviews of clients to obtain personal and medical information, and appropriate health history.
- Prepares collected specimens for laboratory-testing by performing venipuncture and/or finger stick testing.
- Operates electrocardiograph equipment to record electrical wave tracing of the electrical current of the heart muscle and refers to EKG readings to the Registered Nurse or Emergency Department provider.
- Checks vital signs, weight, and measures patients, performs vision and hearing testing, and records findings on patient charts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization.
- Successful completion of a NYS Department of Health prescribed training program for Phlebotomy, satisfactory to the Laboratory Director.
- Completion of a healthcare setting-based training program in the performance of electrocardiographs and basic life support procedures, including certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation.
Special Note:
In addition to meeting the qualifications above, assignment to a long-term care facility requires a New York State Nurse's Aide Certificate.
