Job Description

Mental Health Associate is a vital role in the Emergency Department, providing direct care to patients with psychiatric needs. This position requires a unique blend of skills, including empathy, communication, and crisis management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist nursing staff in performing selected nursing procedures and functional tasks to specific patients.
  • Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges of patients according to established policy and procedures.
  • Provide direct physical care and one-to-one observation to selected patients under supervision.
  • Carry out procedures as taught and assist with patients' examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Assist with lifting, positioning, moving, and ambulating patients using body mechanics as instructed.
  • Transport patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or bed.
  • Assist in preventive measures and crisis interventions, including de-escalation of agitated patients and utilization of crisis prevention techniques.
  • Escorts ambulatory patients and assists with errands as necessary.
  • Maintains patient safety and reports pertinent information and observations regarding patients to the nurse.
  • Communicates information and basic instructions to patients, families, and visitors.
  • Participates in exchange of patient daily report and nursing care conferences.
  • Obtains and records blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rate in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Attends staff and educational meetings and works safely to provide for the safety of patients and others.
Requirements
  • High School diploma required.
  • Certified Medical Assistant required.
  • BCLS certificate from American Heart Association (and any other AHA CPR certifications).
  • One year of satisfactory work performance as a Nurses Aide or Patient Care Associate preferred.
