ABOUT LOSS PREVENTION

The Loss Prevention (LP) teams are dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of our guests, team members, and brand, especially during crisis situations. They safeguard profitable sales by minimizing loss risks, preventing, investigating, and resolving theft and fraud to guarantee product availability for our guests.

At Target, we believe in providing team members with meaningful experiences that foster skill development for their careers. The role of a Loss Prevention Associate offers:

  • Skills in utilizing surveillance and intelligence-driven strategies to ensure the safety and security of team members and guests while helping to reduce loss.
  • The ability to operate Target's video surveillance system to monitor guests and identify potential theft risks.
  • Expertise in implementing Target's Loss Prevention practices and routines to mitigate and prevent loss.
  • Proficiency in accurately documenting cases.
  • Experience in identifying strategic solutions for external theft and fraud, including apprehension.

A typical day as a Loss Prevention Associate may include the following responsibilities:

  • Supporting overall store sales and enhancing profitability by ensuring product availability for guests.
  • Addressing theft incidents with sound judgment and conducting high-quality apprehensions in areas prone to loss, while strictly following policies and AP leadership guidance.
  • Identifying theft patterns through technology, reporting, and surveillance methods.
  • Promoting a culture of theft prevention by executing action plans from AP leadership to decrease loss through improved processes and merchandise protection standards.
  • Identifying, escalating, and assisting with internal theft investigations as directed by AP leadership.
  • Preventing theft by gathering intelligence and communicating significant issues.
  • Understanding and effectively using video systems to monitor theft activities and support internal cases.
  • Responding to security incidents and submitting appropriate documentation for all incidents in accordance with AP policies and procedures.
  • Fostering a culture of physical security and safety for team members and guests by raising awareness and training on safe and secure standards throughout the store.
  • Delivering service and a shopping experience that meets guest needs.
  • Modeling safe behaviors consistently while maintaining a clean store environment.
  • Demonstrating a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through ongoing development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.
  • Working safely at all times to benefit oneself and others; identifying and correcting hazards; complying with all safety policies and best practices.
